We want everyone who visits the Aalto Fashion website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding, going above and beyond the European Union Web and Mobile Accessibility Directive.
What are we doing?
To help us make the Aalto Fashion website a positive place for everyone, we’ve been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.
The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen Level AA as the target for the Aalto Fashion website.
How are we doing?
We’re working hard to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility, but we realise there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we’re doing to make that happen.
Success criteria 1.2.1:
Most video material is not spoken word, and material directly relevant to the student works has captions, so separate text alternatives are not currently considered. Some news articles may contain auxiliary materials from other sources, which may not have text versions available. In these cases, the news article attempts to cover the main points in text.
Success criteria 1.2.3:
Much of the video material is accompanied by music only. The interview materials contains audio narrative, but descriptions of events and visual features in the videos are not provided.
Success criteria 1.2.5:
Some video material contains audio narrative in itself, but the most visual video content does not describe what is shown. For every student collection, however, all the still photos of student works feature detailed textual descriptions in their ‘alt’ content.
