Näytös21 Acknowledgements

28.5.2021

All of the talented designers of the fantastic Näytös21 collections are true winners – they made it to the show! But together with our partners, we are accustomed to giving out some special acknowledgements each year. You can find this year’s prizes and awards here:

NÄYTÖS21 AWARD
Winner: Jenny Hytönen

An international jury has decided upon the winner of the Näytös 21 Award.

The members of the jury were:
Tamara Rothstein, London based Stylist
Heikki Salonen, Creative Director MM6 Maison Margiela
Kaisa Kinnunen, Studio Show Manager Celine

Statement of the jury: This work has truly impressed us. It’s material choices are well balanced between heavy, even rough materials and more delicate see-through meshes, all of which manipulated beautifully, emphasizing their characters. The silhouette is strong with attitude, simultaneously seemingly aggressive and yet poetic. The work is very mature and seems personal. We are all really looking forward to seeing and following the designer’s next steps.

Aalto University’s bachelor student in Fashion Design Idaliina Friman impressed the jury with her visually striking silhouettes, accomplished tailoring, an elegant grasp of historic references and use of recycled materials.

This year, in addition to Friman, Aalto University’s MA student of Fashion Design Ines Kalliala and Elina Äärelä, who has just graduated with a master’s degree, as well as BA student Arttu Åfeldt reached the final, all of whom received recognition in the competition. The second prize went to Åfeldt: has been selected for the internship at Bottega Veneta in Milan. Åfeldt’s impressive and technically advanced collection was inspired by waterproof material, video games and school uniforms.

Since 2005 Aalto University fashion students have been successful in the Designers’ Nest competition. Last year Milka Seppänen won the first prize and in 2019 Henna Lampinen and Tuuli-Tytti Koivula won the first and second place in the competition.
